Your child’s day, from their centre.
See the photos and stories your child’s kaiako share, reply to them, and make your choices.
There is no sign-up. Your centre, or a parent or caregiver it added, sets up your account, then you sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email.
What you see.
Photos, notes and Learning Stories, filed by when they happened. A video arrives as a still image.
The Surfaced Whānau app on a phone, showing Ihaia’s day: the approved Learning Story “The funnel fixes it”, labelled AI-assisted and reviewed by a kaiako, with one like and a comment from Tipene.
What ‘AI-assisted · reviewed by a kaiako’ means.
Claude, an AI from Anthropic, drafted the words from what a kaiako said, and a kaiako read and approved them before you saw them. Claude never sees photos, and never decides who is in them.
Your choices.
You can change any of these at any time, and the centre sees the change straight away.
Face matching on centre devices
Face matching is its own decision. Saying yes or no to it changes nothing else here.
Claude helping to write the story
If you say no, Claude drafts nothing for a moment your child is in.
Your choices in the Surfaced Whānau app for Ihaia: photographs and Claude helping to write the story are allowed, and face matching, a separate choice, is not answered yet.
Your child’s record.
Ask your centre. A head teacher can export your child’s record for you.
Questions about face matching?
How face matching works sets it out, and your centre can give you its own notice about it.
Your comments stay private.
Only your whānau and the staff at your child’s centre see what you write. Other families never see your comments.
